BIO: Ham since 1977. I was always interested in the foundations of Radio. At one time I was a freelance writer for the Electronics Hobby Industry, and centered my articles on Radio History. As a laddie, first studying for my Novice I put together a "1938 Field Day station"... which I still have. My major interests is centered upon 1920s and 1930s radio lore and operation, and the rigs commonly used at that time. Of course, anything that glows in the dark is great in my world.! As a "BA" type, I have a pretty broad interpretation on what a Boatanchor actually is.
I have about 100 years of radio technology and specimens in my shack, but my fave "BAs" are some of the very early Icom rigs from the 1970s. My "hurricane station" is a 1979 Icom 740 which does great on FLdigi and other digi-modes, as well as ssb. My AM position speaks for itself: all Hammarlund and Johnson. For 2m cw and ssb (and FT8) I use a 1980 vintage Kenwood TS700sp. I love the old rigs but my favourite are the 1920s and early 1930s regenerative receivers. My best dx was worked on cw using a 6AG7-6V6G 20 watt MOPA and a Regenerodyne receiver.

Years ago I found Ken calling the Albuquerque Boat Anchor Net on 7.202.5 along with the founding members (about 14 years ago) and have been coming by every week I can make it. I enjoy writing the web site, getting things going with the Warm Up Session at 7PM. I love vintage radios, I run a completely restored HENRY Radio Tempo One with the Tempo AC one, the Kenwood TS-520, the amazing Yaesu FT-102 with 3 - 6146B’s and 1 driver tube the 12BY7A at 250 + watts on SSB. Also running a Winged Emblem Collins KWM-2 with a Shure 404C microphone. Also using the Ameritron AL-80A with the 1.5Kw IntelliTuner 998. For a modern rigs ( 21 years old) is the ICOM 706 Mark II G which is still an amazing radio with DSP and NR. Along side the ICOM is the Kenwood TS-950 SDX and SP-950 at 150 watts. Jerry - w0wow
